Óbidos Lagoon is the largest lagunar system in Portugal, located about 84km north from Lisbon. Thanks to its wide area, the lagoon is the ideal spot to practice nautical sports.
The enchanting town of Óbidos, where the lagoon is located, is originally a Roman town which was fortified in the 16th century. Here, you can visit the medieval castle and wall of Óbidos, one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal. Other monuments such as Porta da Vila (the town gate) and its beautiful paintings, the church of Santa Maria but also the charming alleys are worth visiting during your stay.
The fauna of the lagoon is mostly composed of fish species like the sturgeon, the bream or the sole, but also mollusks and selfish… So go at one of the town’s restaurants to taste the delicious culinary specialties based on fish and seafood products!
