Cider Tasting and Boat Tour to Balestrand from Voss

Voss is a municipality in Vestland County in Western Norway, located in the heart of the country's fjord region. On this tour, you’ll travel along the impressive Sognefjord, the longest and deepest fjord in Norway, and visit the picturesque villages of Vik and Balestrand, located on the shores of the fjord.

The tour begins at the starting point in Voss, where you’ll meet the experienced guide and board the minibus. After a quick safety and itinerary briefing, you’ll begin driving north across the Vikafjell passage, high up in the mountains. Along the way, you’ll have breathtaking panoramic views of the stunning Norwegian landscapes. Even in the summer months, there is often snow on the roads.

On the descent from Vikafjell Mountain, you’ll stop at the Storesvingen viewpoint, offering vast views of the surrounding mountains, valleys and fjords. After capturing some photos of the scenery, you’ll continue driving to Vik, a village in Vestland County with a rich cultural heritage. You’ll visit the main attraction in Vik, the Hopperstad Stave Church. Built in 1130, this medieval wooden church is one of the oldest stave churches in existence. The local guide will share insights about its rich history.

After visiting the church, you’ll embark on a short drive to the harbour in Vik, where you’ll board a boat. You’ll sail along the crystal-clear waters of the idyllic Sognefjord, admiring the beautiful landscapes. The boat cruise takes you to Balestrand, a picturesque village located on the northern shore of the Sognefjord. You’ll enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, before travelling to the Ciderhouse.

The Ciderhouse is a micro cider producer located in an organic orchard. The family-owned cidery grows a range of fruits and produces fruit wines, cider and brandy. The host will give you a tour of the house, and show you how they grow the fruit and make the cider. Then, you’ll be treated to a cider tasting of 5 different samples (non-alcoholic alternatives are also available).

After the cider tasting, you’ll have some free time to explore the beautiful village of Balestrand, known for its spectacular nature and fantastic light conditions. This village is very popular with artists, and there are several galleries and exhibitions open throughout the summer. You can also enjoy a scenic walk along the road beside the fjord.

After exploring Balestrand, you’ll board the bus again and enjoy the return drive to Vik. You’ll stop at the magnificent Tvindefossen Waterfall, one of the most famous in Norway. The impressive waterfall falls from 110 metres (361 feet) high and is surrounded by lush greenery. The guide will share some stories about the local myths related to the Tvindefossen Waterfall. The bus trip then continues back to the starting point in Voss.
