The instructors at West Side Madeira will take you into the best canyon for your sport level, the weather, and river flow at your chosen date and you'll spend 4-5 hours climbing, swimming, abseiling, and having the time of your life! Located in the west of the island, your canyoning excursion in Madeira will take place about 45 minutes from both Sao Vicente and Funchal and surrounded by some of the most beautiful hiking trails such as PR6 25 Fontes hike & Levada do Risco, Levada do Paul or Levada do Alecrim.

Your instructors will provide you with all the necessary canyoning equipment (helmet, harness, ropes, and wetsuit), and will choose which canyon to descend depending on the weather conditions and your fitness level. These are intermediate-level canyons, for which you don't need previous experience, but you do need to be in good physical condition, and your instructors will take care of the rest!

During your canyoning experience in Madeira, you will experience amazing moments in which you will jump, rappel, and even take a dip because these are aquatic canyons! Your instructor will be there to tell you exactly what to do and how to surpass the obstacles you find on the way. There are different canyons that you might descend, depending on weather conditions and your own sport level. However, they are all intermediate canyons, so even though you don't need previous experience to participate, you should have good physical condition. Sign up now!

Course of events

- Arrival at meeting point and introduction to your instructor

- Equipment with the canyoning material (helmet, harness, neoprene)

- Safety and activity briefing

- 20-minute hike to the start of the canyon

- Start the canyoning activity of about 4-5 hours with jumps and rappels, and crystal-clear waters to swim in

- 20-minute hike back to the meeting point

- Return of equipment and debriefing with a provided snack

Activity requirements

You must be able to swim (or at least be comfortable in the water).

If you suffer from vertigo (not fear of heights), canyoning is not necessarily recommended.

Good physical condition is essential for canyoning. The minimum requirement is to be able to walk easily for 2 hours on difficult terrain and to have stable feet.

You must wear one pair of sports shoes (without flat soles) for the canyoning activity. Shoes will get wet, so don't forget to take a second pair of shoes to change into after the activity.
